about

"
The barren expanse of ice stretched out to the horizon. Its darkness ended with a barely visible, thin sheet of astronomical twilight. Sporadic winds whisked layers of loose snow in haphazard patterns. Only distant whistles of wind reflected off the icy floor. It has been months since the darkness has lifted.

Days don’t exist here. Just darkness and light. Separated by the six-months-long rising and setting of the sun. At some points a subtle hint that floats beyond the eye’s reach. At others a pinpoint above the horizon. At others, it’s an all-seeing beacon that persists for weeks upon weeks upon weeks. It rises and falls, it glides through the sky, it hangs ominously above, and it disappears completely.

The sun was tucked just beyond the edge of the sphere. The dim blue light was fading again. It had peeked in on this desolate and seemingly forgotten corner of the planet, but only for a short time. As it had for millions of years, it disappeared for months. Darkness took its place. And time stood still.
